Speaking of traditions, January 25th is the birthday of the Scottish bard, Robert Burns. You may not recognize his name, but nearly everyone has heard of the poem Auld Lang Syne. It’s one of Burns’ best-known works, along with Tam o’ Shanter, To a Mouse, A Red, Red Rose, and Address to a Haggis.
A Burns supper is held each year on or around his birthday in celebration. The meal is traditional featuring haggis, neeps, tatties, and Scotch whiskey. The first meal was held as a memorial on the fifth year of his death and has become a tradition ever since. You can read more about Rabbie Burns by searching the internet.
