Ryan Beilstein, Controller at Earth Sun Moon, has been raising money and participating in the “Tour de Cure” for the past 4 years.

“Tour de Cure is the premier cycling fundraising event of the American Diabetes Association and the nation’s largest diabetes cycling event. This event is a unique opportunity for businesses, clubs, friends and families to come together to form teams with the vision of a life free of diabetes and all its burdens.” – American Diabetes Association

This year the Tour de Cure celebrated their 25th anniversary with a century route. Ryan and Matt rode the 100 mile course through beautiful Western PA.

Ryan’s inspiration to raise money for the ADA is his older brother, Matt. Matt was diagnosed with Type 1 juvenile diabetes when he was just 11 years old. He used to have to take 3-4 insulin shots each day, but now wears an insulin pump. Ryan said of his brother, “He has been living with diabetes for 20 years. It doesn’t slow him down much with his activities, career, or attitude – he is a pretty amazing role model.”

While in a pizza shop the brothers spotted a flyer for the Tour de Cure and knew it was perfect for them. Ryan stated:

“The biggest motivation for us is to raise money for a cure and it is neat that we can ride our bikes doing it – it is one of our favorite hobbies. We both have been riding bikes since we were kids, but became serious road bikers lately. We each ride over 4,000 miles a year.”

Over $200,000 was raised at the 2016 Pittsburgh Tour de Cure. Ryan and his team of three raised $1,700. The funds go toward prevention, management, and research for a cure for diabetes. Ryan said, “There are 29 million Americans living with diabetes.”

Ryan and Matt look forward to the fundraising ride each year and helping find a cure for this widespread disease.
